ANGELINA Jolie and Brad Pitt have named their new twins after relatives.

The premature boy and girl, both 5lbs and healthy, are Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline.

They were delivered by Caesarean in Nice, France, at 8pm on Saturday as dozens of security guards patrolled inside and outside the hospital.

Angelina had been due to give birth in August but it was brought forward for medical reasons.

Michel Sussmann, her doctor at the Lenval Hospital, said: “Mother and babies are doing very well. Everything is marvellous.”

Marcheline is named after Jolie’s actress mother who died of cancer last year.

Knox Leon is thought to be named after Brad’s grandad Hall Knox Hillhouse.

Leon comes from the Greek word for lion and implies strength.

Brad, 44 — who was present at the birth — and Angelina, 33, also have a daughter Shiloh, two, and three adopted kids.

The couple recently moved into a chateau 50 miles away and are due to be flown back there by helicopter later this week.

The babies’ first photo has been sold to a US paper for £5.5million with the money to go to a humanitarian cause.

Honor Marie Warren was born June 7 in Los Angeles, her rep, Brad Cafarelli, confirms. This is the couple's first child.

Alba, 27, and Warren, 31, quietly wed on May 19 at the Beverly Hills courthouse. The two met while working on Fantastic Four, for which Warren was the director's assistant. They became engaged last December.

The actress recently did some last-minute shopping for baby gear at Bel Bambini on Robertson Boulevard in Los Angeles, picking up items such as Born Free baby bottles and a Boppy pillow for breastfeeding.

"She seemed relaxed," says a source, "and ready to welcome home her baby."

As for the kind of parent she plans to be, the actress recently told Fit Pregnancy that she'll walk the line between tough and nurturing. "I don't want to be my child's best friend. I want to be a mom," she said. "But I do want my child to come to me when they have problems and need to talk, so it's going to be about treading that line."

Britney’s critically praised appearance on “How I Met Your Mother” managed to gain last month 10.6 million viewers. It was her first major acting role since she had a guest appearance in March 2006 on “Will and Grace.”

Aldridge's cousin, Tina Robinson, reportedly confirmed the news to UsMagazine.com.

"He proposed a few days ago, and she accepted," Robinson reportedly said. Robinson told the site she hadn't seen a ring and wasn't certain whether they would marry before or after their baby is born.

Access Hollywood reported that a "source close to the Spears family" said that getting married "has been [Jamie Lynn's] goal," and E! online reported that she had been seen in her hometown of Kentwood, Louisiana, wearing what appeared to be an engagement ring, but on the wrong hand. Access Hollywood's source reportedly added that Jamie was "dead set [on getting married] from the beginning" and has gone "head to head" with her parents over the issue, the source added. "She's been asking [her parents]" to marry him for some time, and he has repeatedly asked her parents."

People.com reported that "a source" confirmed the engagement on Tuesday.

MTV News' requests for comment from Spears' reps had not been answered at press time.

Alex Curran suffered an attack at the hands of another woman at a post-Brits party on Wednesday night.

The wife of Liverpool and England captain Steven Gerrard was partying with a pal at Kylie Minogue's post-awards bash at Movida when she was assaulted.

An unnamed woman threw champagne over Curran and her pal before wrestling the WAG to the ground.

Unsuprisingly the irrate lady was swiftly removed from the London club.

Celebrities with problems are nothing new

Lately, it seems many stars are making headlines because of their personal problems -- not their talent.

Teen star Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant.

Her sister, Britney, is a hot mess.

And actors Heath Ledger and Brad Renfro recently died tragically young.

It can be disappointing to see your favorite star battling big problems. Kids idolize stars because their glamorous lives seem perfect.

"It appeals to anyone's core desire for things going their way," says pediatric psychologist Jonathan Pochyly with Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

Of course, things don't always go a star's way. Celebrities serve jail time, get photographed in embarrassing situations and have immature outbursts.

Surprisingly, this actually isn't new. Actors have struggled with personal problems for decades, said Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture at Syracuse University in New York.

The difference is that news media in the past didn't have knowledge of most scandals. During the 1940s and 1950s, for example, Thompson said movie studios went to great lengths to keep their stars' screw-ups out of the headlines.

"They made up biographies of their stars," Thompson said. "They were not squeamish about paying off authorities."

Now it's hard to keep stars out of the news, and there are plenty of news agencies ready to report. "There is a flood of places where this can be reported," Thompson said.

While some critics worry it's bad for kids to see stars acting out, Thompson said it's unlikely kids will try to imitate a celeb's bad behavior.

"I don't know of any girl little now who says, 'I want to use Britney as a role model,' " Thompson said.

The I Know What You Did Last Summer star – who reportedly has no nudity embedded into her movie contracts – leaves little to the imagination in the sordid new ad, which ironically enough doesn’t show her face.

Vaseline.com has resorted to a guessing game for this “mystery celebrity” and offers those able to guess the star a reward.

The website describes Gellar as someone who has "Starred opposite an Angel” and “This celebrity lives a full life that puts her skin to the test. Her career began when she was just five years old and over the years she’s become a superstar of the small and big screen”.

Meanwhile the actress has been the latest in a string of celebrities to voice their concerns about troubled-songstress Britney Speas.

"It’s not something to joke about,” Gellar told Parade's Jeanne Wolf. “I’ve met Britney a few times and seen her perform. I think what has happened to her is heart-wrenching. It’s really sad.

"Honestly, without sounding corny, it gives you a sorrowful experience when you realize how lonely and how isolated these girls must be. At least that’s the insight that I got.”

Amy Winehouse Gets Visa, Stays In London

Amy Winehouse was all smiles as she was spotted leaving the Capio Nightingale rehab clinic to pay a visit to the dentist on Friday (February).

The troubled singer had just learned that the U.S. government reversed its decision by granting her a visa for Sunday’s Grammy Awards.

Disappointingly, the decision came a bit too late - as Winehouse’s reps told press that she’s sticking to her plan to perform live via satellite from London.

“Unfortunately, due to the logistics involved and timing complications, Amy will not be coming to the U.S. this weekend to perform at the Grammys in Los Angeles, however she will still be performing via satellite broadcast from London as previously announced this morning,” her U.S. rep tells.

The statement adds: “Amy would like to thank all of those people, and in particular the staff involved at the U.S. Embassy in London, who have all worked so hard to expedite her application. She is very sad not to be attending the prestigious awards in person, but wishes to express her heartfelt gratitude to all of those involved in the process.”

Angelina Jolie’s Iraqi Mission

Out to do her part in saving the world, Angelina Jolie took flight from London to her final destination of Baghdad, Iraq on Thursday (February 6).

According to a People magazine report, “The goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (Jolie), 32, is there on a U.S. government mission with the State Department to Iraq. She is accompanying Under secretary of State Paula Dobriansky to learn more about the humanitarian crisis and the 4 million displaced people, 58 percent of whom are under 12.”

Of the situation, the Girl Interrupted actress told CNN in an exclusive interview: “There’s lots of goodwill and lots of discussion, but there seems to be just a lot of talk at the moment, and a lot of pieces that need to be put together. I’m trying to figure out what they are.”

“What happens in Iraq and how Iraq settles in the years to come is going to affect the entire Middle East. And a big part of what it’s going to affect, how it settles, is how these people are returned and settled into their homes and their community and brought back together and whether they can live together and what their communities look like. It’s in our best interest to address a humanitarian crisis on this scale because displacement can lead to a lot of instability and aggression,” Jolie added.

Actress Michelle Williams, who reportedly split with Ledger over his drug use in September, has stayed out of sight since rushing home to New York after learning of Ledger's death two weeks ago.

Ledger was found dead in his Soho loft from an apparent prescription medicine overdose. His family is still waiting for an exact cause of death from the New York City medical examiner.

In her first statement since Ledger died, Williams said, "Please respect our need to grieve privately. My heart is broken." The statement was released by Ledger's spokeswoman.

According to People magazine, the actress was "devastated" upon hearing the news and rushed off a movie shoot in Sweden to fly back to New York with their daughter, Matilda. She arrived at the Brooklyn home the two once shared Jan. 23, greeted by makeshift memorials of flowers and letters.

Williams, 27, and Ledger, 28, met while filming "Brokeback Mountain" in 2005. She played his wife in the movie. The couple dated, lived together in Brooklyn, N.Y., and had Matilda in October 2005. Despite rumors about a wedding, the two split in September 2007.

Ledger was found dead in his downtown Manhattan apartment Jan. 22, with bottles of prescription drugs nearby. The actor's cause of death remains open, pending toxicology tests. Clips from a January 2006 video of Ledger at a Hollywood drug party were released earlier this week, increasing speculation that drugs may have been involved in his untimely death.

Ledger's family and friends, including former girlfriend Naomi Watts, paid tribute to the actor at a private memorial service in Los Angeles, Saturday night. According to Australia's The Age, Ledger's body will be buried in his hometown of Perth next week and Williams is expected to attend the funeral.

Actress Sienna Miller has won a High Court privacy case against a photographer who took nude pictures of her without her consent.

The judge granted a default judgement and a permanent injunction against photographer Warren Richardson.

The photos were taken while Ms Miller was filming Hippie Hippie Shake, based on the memoirs of Richard Neville, who edited counterculture magazine Oz.

Mr Richardson said he would agree not to use the still images.

Any damages will be decided at a later date and Mr Richardson was ordered to pay costs.

Long lens

Ms Miller's lawyer, David Sherborne, told Mr Justice Eady in London that the actress - currently abroad - was "extremely distressed" by the incident which happened on a closed film set on a private estate in Surrey.

The "highly intrusive" pictures were taken using a long lens while Ms Miller was removing her clothes and entering a lake.

Mr Richardson then provided the photographs to the Xposure Photo Agency.

Ms Miller had already settled a case against Xposure and The Sun and the News of the World, which printed the photographs.

News Group Newspapers, along with Xposure, had to pay the actress £37,500 in damages, plus legal costs, after the pictures were printed in October.

Hippie Hippie Shake is due for release later this year.

Details of Arterton's character, known as Fields, were not available, but a representative for the film's Los Angeles-based producer, Danjaq Prods., said "it's a nice-sized role."

The episode begins with the students of St. Jude's and Constance Billard sneaking into the school pool. They have a party, with drugs and everything! Nate (Chace Crawford) finds Blair and asks why she's been avoiding him, but she remains coy. She tells Chuck to stop blackmailing her, but he's still holding their secret tryst over her head. By the way, Chuck is wearing a ridiculous red-striped tanktop and patterned swim shorts. I do not approve!

Vanessa and Dan are not at the pool party. Instead, they are hanging out at the Williamsburg Humphrey pad, and Vanessa is filming him for a documentary. Dan gets a call from Serena, who is wearing a ridiculously middle-aged-looking bathing suit, so the two book it over to the pool. There's a lot of drinking going on, which leads to two boys getting into a scuffle. A fight at the beginning of the episode? This is absolutely redonkulous! The boy hits his head on the wall and falls into the pool. Nate dives in and rescues him. Serena calls 911, as everyone takes their booze and drugs and clears the place. Unfortunately, someone left behind a cell phone. The pictures on the cell phone are enough for the school administration to ID almost everyone present at the party. The new headmistress, Ms. Queller, tells them sternly that each trespasser must write a 10,000-word essay on how he or she came to be on school property illegally. The ringleader will be expelled, but if no one comes forward, they will all be expelled.

Blair, Serena, Nate, Chuck and Dan all agree to keep everything a secret. As Chuck says, if nobody talks, then nobody will get in trouble. Dan, however, is not too sure about it all.

Outside the school, Chuck happens upon Nate, who is hard at work writing a heart-felt letter to Blair. Chuck is none too pleased because we all know that he wants Blair all to himself.

Rufus calls Dan and tells him that he should cooperate with the administration. He wants his son to look out for himself because his classmates will most certainly do the same. Lily shows up at the gallery to tell Rufus that she is planning on saying yes to Bart. Rufus is hurt because he thought he put his heart on the line in the last episode, but Lily is hurt that he can't plan anything. They bicker and she leaves.

Blair is hosting an essay-writing party, and Vanessa and Dan arrive together. In the elevator up, Vanessa shows him footage of Chuck at the pool, taking the stolen key that got them inside in the first place. At the party, Blair warns Serena that Vanessa is trying to interfere with her relationship with Dan, and Dan confronts Chuck about the pool key, which he has brought to the party. Chuck smarms that Dan is poor so he'll probably be the fall-guy for everyone else. And plus, he only took the key at the pool to hide from the authorities.

Dan realizes that Chuck has a point, and tells Serena that he is not going to be party to her band of brothers. He also susses out that Serena knows who the culprit is, but is protecting his or her identity. Watch the clip.

Chuck then tells Blair that he's going to tell Nate about their tryst. Blair bitches that Nate isn't going to believe him because Chuck is a man-slut, but conveniently, Vanessa has caught their entire conversation on tape. Chuck tries to take her camera, but she won't let him. Dan steps in and threatens to give him a black eye.

Nate goes up to Blair's room to give her his love letter, but she acts dismissively. He snoops around in Blair's drawer and finds the pool key, sans keychain.

The next day, Rufus goes to Lily and tells her that he's still in love with her and wants to get back together. He pleads with her to claim her life back from her mother and choose him. He gives her a kiss and walks out the door, and my heart just melts.

Nate tells Ms. Queller that he was the one who broke into the school. She doesn't believe him, though, even though he shows her the key. He can't give any details about how he got it, or even where the key is. Doh! Nate can't do anything right, can he?

On the steps of the Met, Blair demands that Vanessa hand over the incriminating tape. Vanessa refuses, and a second later, Chuck offers her a wad of cash in exchange for the tape. This time, Vanessa accepts.

Lily is having a boring lunch with Bart Bass, when Bart leaves the table to take a business call. This gives her pause, and reaches for her cell phone to call Rufus and tells him that she wants them to be together. Oh yay! They make plans to go away for the weekend.

Ms. Queller assembles all the revelers once more to announce that Nate Archibald will be suspended, and the suspension will go on his permanent record, for confessing to the crime that he didn't commit. She means business, but frankly, I think this is what Nate was gunning for when he confessed. Now, he doesn't have to go to school for a while, and it'll jeopardize his chances of getting into Dartmouth. After the meeting, Dan asks Serena to give up the name of the instigator. She says that it was she who broke in to the pool. She didn't tell him because she didn't want to put him in the position of choosing between her and protecting himself. She can't confess to Queller because she's unlikely to get into another school if she gets expelled due to her less than stellar record. At that moment, Queller calls Dan into her office.

Nate finds Blair and tells her that he confessed to protect her, because he thought she was the guilty one, and that he loves her. She says that that was the most romantic thing that he could have done for her, but that they can't be together right now because she doesn't want him.

Serena goes home to find Lily packing for a weekend away. Rufus calls Lily's cell and Serena spies the caller ID. She realizes that Lily is getting back together with Rufus and begs her mom not do it because she cares about Dan more than anything—she would rather be Chuck's step-sister than Dan's. She realizes suddenly that she has to turn herself in, for Dan's sake, so she immediately leaves to go to school. She interrupts Dan's meeting with Ms. Queller and confesses to everything. Fortunately for her, she gets off with a slap on the wrist. As if there were any doubt. Dan isn't surprised.

Vanessa goes over to Blair's to give her the incriminating tape and some boy advice. The tape she gave Chuck was blank (go Vanessa!). Later on, Blair tells Vanessa that she went to her Ikea-furnishes shoebox and paid her rent for a year. She doesn't want to be indebted to anyone, and wants to go back to snarking on her. They have a bonding moment, though, when Vanessa says that she used Chuck's money to set up a fund for teens with genital herpes in his name. Oh, I would so love for Vanessa and Blair to become BFFs!

Lily accepts Bart's proposal. Um, she didn't have to marry the guy. She doesn't even tell Rufus the real reason she isn't getting back together with him. You might argue that she doesn't want to keep hope alive in any of them because that would just be too tempting and heartbreaking for the both of them. But on the other hand, Dan and Serena are teenagers and their romance probably won't last forever. Lily should have broken up with Bart, and kept Rufus around until the kids break up.

At the engagement party, Bart whispers to Serena that he made some calls on her behalf and made a donation toward the new van der Woodsen-Bass library to get her off the hook. She leaves the party immediately to tell Dan that he was right all along. Then, they snuggle in for a cozy night of studying.

Blair asks Nate to forgive and forget. She says I love you, and they kiss and make up.

"Within a couple of months our five-year relationship was over. I knew in my heart she was seeing Andrew.

"After being with somebody that length of time you have an amazing gut instinct."

The truth finally came out earlier this month when Hannah, 26, and Andrew, 27, went to a London film premiere as a couple.

In Primeval Andrew plays palaeontologist Connor Temple — who has a crush on Hannah's character, zoologist Abby Maitland. But Paul can't bring himself to watch the big-budget ITV show which pulls in eight million viewers.

He said: "I think it would take an amazing bloke to watch the woman he thought he might spend the rest of his life with and her new lover on telly together."

Hannah and Paul met when they joined S Club 7 in 1998. He said: "Our management had forbidden us from having relationships so it made us feel extra naughty. We found it hilarious. I remember creeping from one hotel room to another in the middle of the night so nobody would know.

"Hannah may have an angelic face but I used to call her a vixen in the bedroom.

"People used to say we had the perfect relationship—we were great mates with a fantastic sex life.

"We loved staying in having an Indian takeaway and watching a film, or just going to the pub. Hannah's such a petite thing, but she'd knock back pints with me." In October 2001 the pop pair admitted their secret romance in a blaze of publicity and kissed in an episode of the S Club 7 TV series.

And after becoming public property they made an extra effort to have time just for themselves.

Paul said: "I remember when we went away skiing together. We had a lovely chalet. We drank champagne and made love in front of the log fire.

"It was romantic, we were happy and were always very tactile with each other wherever we were. I imagine some of the other bandmates probably got a bit annoyed with us."

Pressures

Paul quit S Club in 2002 and he and Hannah moved to Brighton. He formed a group called Skua and in 2005 became lead singer and songwriter of a band called Charlie Bullitt.

He said: "We moved to Brighton to get away from the pressures of being recognised.

"It wasn't a great time. I was getting slated for putting on weight. One paper said I looked like Meatloaf. I think I put on the weight because I lived with Hannah. She could eat whatever she liked. I couldn't!"

At the beginning of last year Hannah landed the job in Primeval just as Paul left his group.

He said: "I think we started to go downhill then. I wasn't working and decided to go back to acting.

"Hannah kept telling me to go out and get an agent and to get some work. I think I was a bit of a disappointment to her then and probably wasn't the greatest of boyfriends.

"I didn't have a lot going for me, but I never expected her to kick me while I was down. But I knew something was wrong—she wasn't tactile, she didn't want to make love.

"The crunch came when I realised it had been a whole two weeks since we'd seen each other. She obviously didn't want to be with me.

"I don't hate Hannah, I wish her happiness. I just feel sad that she couldn't tell me about her and Andrew before publicly announcing it."

A spokeswoman for Hannah said: "Hannah does not wish to make any comment."

She's best remembered for her role as Zoe Slater in EastEnders, but Michelle Ryan admits that things could have been very different if it wasn't for some careful choices. The 22 year old estimates that she has turned down £1m to appear in a host of reality TV shows over the years - and now her decision to stick with acting is about to pay off.

"I've turned down so many offers for reality shows, I could have made a small fortune by now if I had done them," she reveals. "If you want to do that, then I say go for it, because it can set you up for life. But it's not about having money in the bank for me.

"I just want to do good work and move on from EastEnders. Some people would be very comfortable with that kind of work, but if I was doing auditions and reality stuff, it would be too much to focus on.

"I'm doing what's right for me and sticking with the acting."

Michelle admits her time at EastEnders left her feeling fragile. In 2002 she had time away from the soap after suffering a breakdown - at one point it was reported that she was thinking of taking her own life.

"When I left EastEnders my confidence was low," she admits. "I was exhausted and very down, but I never thought of suicide. I look back on the show with affection now, but I'm glad I moved on when I did. In five years, Zoe went through a lot. I still get letters about the storyline when she discovered Kat was her mum.

"I was so lucky getting a job straight from school where I learned so much. I made some fantastic friends. I'm still in touch with Kacey (Ainsworth, Little Mo), Tracy-Ann (Oberman, Chrissie Watts), Jill (Halfpenny, Kate Mitchell) and Charlie (Brooks, Janine Evans). We talk all the time.

"I was a bit anxious about leaving but there were lots of offers coming in so I knew I was making the right decision.

"I was nervous about working with older actors in EastEnders, but now I feel I can hold my own."

Michelle's latest role, in the ITV1 adaptation of Jane Austen's Mansfield Park, is much more her style. She plays Maria - a society beauty who causes a scandal by leaving her husband after falling in love with another man.

"Maria's a minx and a flirt, but she also has a vulnerable side and is quite innocent," says Michelle.

"In those days, it was essential that women married well. Maria has a fling with Henry, who's a cad, then ends up marrying a rich man, Rushworth, for the lifestyle. But she brings shame on her family when she takes off with Henry again."

Michelle's co-star in the drama is Billie Piper and the pair became firm friends.

"It was a young cast," Michelle says. "Billie is lovely and charismatic and all the boys were gorgeous."

As well as Mansfield Park, Michelle recently completed Jekyll for BBC1 with James Nesbitt, about Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

"I play a psychiatrist. I borrowed a suit for my interview so they could see I could play someone older," says Michelle. "Things are going so brilliantly, I treasure every day."

Perhaps the biggest break of all has been landing the role of Jamie Sommers in the remake of the Seventies hit The Bionic Woman. If it's successful, Michelle will become a big star in America.

"I still can't believe all this is happening to me. As soon as news got out, Shane Richie and other old mates from EastEnders sent me congratulatory texts," Michelle admits. "I'm very excited - I'm still pinching myself."

Michelle was picked from thousands of other actresses to play the crime-fighting sex symbol.

"Hopefully it won't be too much of a stretch for me," she admits. "I'll have to learn martial arts and I did an American accent at the audition - but I'm not sure what I'll do for the first show."

If bosses like the pilot, which is being filmed this month in Canada, the young Brit will sign up for an entire series. As Michelle admits, it's a far cry from her days selling Puffa jackets on Albert Square.

But breaking into the US has brought about other changes. Michelle recently split with her fiancé, Tommy Williams, 27, a semi-professional footballer, after almost four years together. And North London-based Michelle admits she has no plans to give it all up for married life and a family yet.

"I have moments where I think, 'Oh, I want to get married and have kids' - and I definitely will one day - but I'm happy to leave it until I'm about 30," she reveals with a smile.

"Lots of my friends are having kids and I can see it's hard work. I'll happily change nappies, bathe and feed them, but toddlers need so much input. I want that, but not just yet. I'm having too much fun working right now."

Michelle missed out on a Hollywood movie because it clashed with her final scenes in EastEnders, but has since starred in Cashback and I Want Candy, currently on general release.

"I've worked non-stop since leaving," she says. "I played my first lead in I Want Candy with Mackenzie Crook and Carmen Electra. It had a great vibe about it and I hope people like it.

"Everyone is saying the next year is going to be good for me - hopefully it will be."Publish

Grinning broadly and giving that famous throaty laugh, Zoe Lucker can barely contain her joy.

As she slips into a size 10 sequinned gown for her exclusive Sunday shoot, Zoe is toned, tanned and confident.

At 5ft 6in, curvaceous Zoe has a fabulous figure. But reflecting on the celebrity pressure to be thin brings back uncomfortable memories for the newly-auburn TV star. In her early 20s, she was obsessed with cutting fat from her diet and became too thin, weighing around 8st.

"I was obsessed with diet," she recalls. "I'd eat very high carb food, which didn't give me enough fat. My eyes and skin were affected by it and my mood changed.

"I was definitely not as chilled out as I am now.

"I'm going to be 33 next month and, as you get older, you look gaunt if you are too thin. I take a lot of vitamins and I'm quite a healthy eater. I've been to the gym twice in my life but I love walking so I walk as much as I can.

"When I eat stodgy food, it makes me feel tired, even itchy. Nowadays, for breakfast, I eat cereal or bacon, chicken and salad for lunch, and I love pasta at dinner. I'm not into snacking.

"I worry about the size 0 issue because I can only assume these girls are spending every waking moment thinking about what they are putting into their mouths.

"If teenage girls are not feeding themselves, they're not feeding their brains, which is so important at that age."

Slimming aside, Zoe thinks she may have finally found her perfect man - and she's never been happier.

After a divorce and a string of failed relationships, the former Footballers' Wives star says she has met the man she'll settle down and have kids with.

"I feel very, very happy at the moment," she grins. "Everything is going as I want it to. I don't think I've ever been happier. It's true I have a man in my life and I think he could be The One.

"I'm not going to go into any details because it's early stages and I don't want to jinx things -I've talked about my love life in the past and regretted it. But he's in showbiz and he's fantastic."

Zoe, who was briefly married to estate agent Richard Forshaw in 2000, is reluctant to reveal her lover's name. But he has all the attributes of her ideal man.

She smiles: "He's loyal, caring, funny and affectionate. Good looks are important too. I like dark hair and eyes and smiley faces."

Zoe's exes include DJ Tom Thorpe and children's TV presenter Tony Craig. Despite rumours, she's repeatedly denied a relationship with DJ Chris Evans.

"I've had relationships in the past where I haven't got on with a person, but you can end up staying for reasons you can't explain," she admits. "You look back and think, 'What was going on there?'

"When I was younger, I was quite high-maintenance, but as you get older, it feels right that two people spend time together and enjoy each other's company. I don't see any point in a relationship if you're not having a laugh and they're not your best mate."

Now she's no longer obsessed with her weight, Zoe is focusing on other things - and becoming a mum is very high on her agenda.

"I've always wanted children," she says. "I'll still have to work - I've got a mortgage like everyone else - but I'd like to spend as much time as possible at home during the baby's first couple of years. Hiring a nanny and going straight back to work isn't me at all."

The second of four children, Zoe's childhood in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, was idyllic.

"I love our family Christmases and Sunday lunches and that's what I want for my kids," she says.

And her desire for children is so great that she wouldn't rule out having a baby on her own.

"If you get into your late 30s or early 40s and haven't met the right person, going it alone is an option," insists Zoe. "I have a lot of friends who are single parents and have done a fantastic job of raising their children."

And while she misses Tanya Turner, her Footballers' Wives character, and can't bear to think of her as dead, Zoe does have one regret about the show.

Video grabs of her many "sex scenes" can now be found on websites. And taken out of context, she says some of them, including the infamous mile-high incident with Conrad, look like internet porn.

"When friends say, 'Have a look at these pictures', I'm mortified," admits Zoe. "It looks so full on and they make me uncomfortable. It was only acting after all. My friends think it's hilarious but I don't like the idea of kids my godchildren's age possibly seeing these images.

"When you act, there's a storyline and you are playing a character, so it's obviously different from doing it yourself.

"I'm not sexually adventurous like Tanya. I would never think about sex on a plane. It's a bit disrespectful to everybody else trying to use the bathroom!"

Two years ago, while filming the TV series Bombshell (which has yet to be screened in the UK), Zoe started suffering panic attacks.

This is the first time she's spoken about the stress that sparked them.

"My god-daughter, Molly, was going in for a big op," says Zoe. "She was five and had to have a cyst removed from her forehead because it could have affected her brain.

"I was trying to pretend to her mum, my best friend Sally, that everything was going to be OK. But there was a panic going on. It was very stressful and at the same time I was working very long hours doing Bombshell. That was when the panic attacks started.

"Molly was supposed to be in intensive care for two weeks but she was home in two days. She's perfect now - and my panic attacks are a thing of the past."

Zoe's face lights up when talking about Molly, her other godchildren and her nephew and niece. It's clear what a devoted mum she'll make - and she can't wait to fulfil her wish.

"I can work very hard and have fantastic friends but a baby is what I've always wanted," she smiles.

News of the World columnist and TV star Ulrika Jonsson is as famous for her lovelife as her career.

Two divorces, an affair with Sven Goran Eriksson, an abusive fling with Stan Collymore — it's been a rollercoaster ride of passion and heartbreak.

She has never understood why she her relationships didn't go the distance. Then Channel 4 asked her to investigate the growing problem of sex addiction.

What Ulrika learned shocked her to the core. She began as a reporter, underwent therapy herself — and left with an astounding conclusion. Here is her story...

MY name is Ulrika, and I'm a sex addict...apparently.

This was the devastating diagnosis I was faced with by a team of therapists. And I was only there to make a TV documentary.

What started out as an innocent journalistic exercise suddenly turned into a traumatic journey of personal discovery.

If you had asked me six months ago to describe a sex addict I might have said someone who regularly visits prostitutes or cheats on his wife. I probably wouldn't have thought of women at all.

So when Channel 4 asked me to go to America and investigate the world of sex addicts and their therapists it was with huge curiosity, and some scepticism, that I agreed.

It was a journey that opened my eyes in a way I would never have anticipated.

Because what I discovered was that sex addiction has very little to do with "how many" or "how often".

The definition of a sex addict is someone whose sexual behaviour damages their life. Given that, I suppose thousands of us, who believed we were just unlucky or ill-used might fit that bill.

Virginity

What this addiction is actually about is how you use sex, how it makes you feel and the damage that it does — to you and to other people. When that penny dropped it knocked me sideways.

It was a discovery that gave me a chilling insight into my own childhood and the implications that had on my own loves and relationships.

I know people imagine they've got me taped... sassy Swedish blonde, adulteress, heart-breaker. In fact, I didn't lose my virginity until I was 17, I've had fewer partners than average and while I may have hurt others, the person hurt hardest was me.

Because I discovered that for virtually all my adult life I had been using the way I related to others to try to heal something in myself.

When I first had sex it was with a complete stranger. I just wanted to get it out of the way. I soon discovered someone desiring me made me feel of being wanted or needed.

But I would feel empty afterwards, emotionally unsatisfied, so I would have to have more sex — to refuel. I had a "male" attitude to sex — do it for it's own sake and to hell with emotional connection.

As any addict — to drugs, drink or arousing desire — will tell you, it makes you feel better for a while, but ultimately, never works.

The kick is fantastic for a few minutes. Then you need more.

It's not surprising that when damaged people seek something to fill a hole in their soul they often settle on sex.

The world is dominated by it. It's on billboards, on TV, in papers and magazines. If you don't want to pay for it, it's all there for free on the internet.

Anyone, including kids, can tap into more porn and perversion than it's humanly possible to absorb.

The upshot of this, coupled with poor sex education, is that Britain is the Western world's teen pregnancy capital and STDs are rife.

In search of answers I travelled to America, where sex addiction is treated with the same seriousness as better understood compulsions.

At the Pine Grove Centre in Mississippi I learned that of 1,000 sex addicts treated, 80 percent had suffered childhood abuse or trauma.

I also learned sex is not the enemy here. The problem is the way we use it to patch up a perceived inadequacy in ourselves.

When one therapist referred to sex addiction as an "intimacy disorder" it threw up many questions for me — and answered many more. Especially when I discovered this disorder is formed early on in life.

Some experts believe that what they call our "love map" — the way we think of ourselves and relate to others — is formed by the age of eight. It goes to the core of our approach to intimate relationships.

All the therapists I met insisted that some kind of early "trauma" — it could be as awful as sex or physical abuse or as slight as loneliness or rejection — shapes our whole outlook.

I already knew my childhood was not exactly normal. My mother left my father when I was eight and I lived alone with him for four years.

Abuse

I was not abused, but he kept a large library of porn which he made no attempt to hide. And I often witnessed him have sex with the many girlfriends in his life. It wasn't deliberate, he just wasn't bothered if I happened to be around.

When a therapist asked me how I would feel if a man behaved that way with my children I had to admit I'd want to kill him.

But I cannot bring myself to see that as abuse. What I do concede is it shaped me, and made it hard for me to feel a person worthy of love and respect. My early attitude was that sex was disgusting and as a child I was never allowed to make a connection between love and sex.

Therapist Dawn Zurlinden explained that deep down, I didn't feel valued by my parents so I try to prove them wrong. The way I do this is to make people desire me, so I become worthy in my own eyes.

I was also told I am drawn to men who are "emotionally unavailable" because I cannot trust.

What the world sees, I'm told, is a strong, independent working mum who fights her corner. What I feel inside, much of the time, is fear.

My experiences turned many of my preconceptions on their head. I met Marni, a god-fearing, middle-aged lady from the bible belt, whose life has been blighted by her compulsion for bad, loveless sex.

She's the most unlikely sex addict you could imagine... if you didn't know anything about sex addiction.

Before this project I was asked sniggeringly countless times to get sufferers' numbers — usually by men whose own appetites no woman could satisfy. If they tune in, I suspect they may be laughing on the other side of their faces.

And if you can't tell the difference between f***ing and making love — this programme is definitely for you.

The King of Pop is believed to be in town to negotiate sale of a part of his Beatles catalog to Sir Paul McCartney.

Jackson had outbid Sir Paul McCartney and John Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono, to buy the songs for £24million in 1985. The purchase gave him control over the Fab Four's repertoire and hits by artists such as Bob Dylan and Neil Diamond.

Jackson's rights to the music, which he co-owns with Sony, are valued at between 250 million pounds and 400 million pounds.

Jackson is being forced to sell off part of his catalog in a bid to stave off bankruptcy.

In the past, Sir Paul has evinced interest in acquiring the Fab Four's repertoire so a deal could be in the offing.

Candy and Tori stopped speaking after Aaron Spelling, Candy's husband and Tori's father, died and left Tori a derisory sum in his will.

Kevin Federline, 29, is lending the troubled star his support while she is undergoing treatment at Malibu's Promises centre but despite family hopes they will get back together, Kevin is not interested.

A source told Us Weekly magazine: "I talked to Kevin about Britney and he said he's not getting back together with Britney. At least not right now. He just wants to be a friend for her. She has told him she would get back with him, but he's trying to just do the right thing for everyone right now, but he doesn't want to go back there again."

Another source claims the couple were close to working out a divorce settlement earlier this year, until Britney's wild partying caused Kevin and his lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, to intervene.

Washington, March 16: A computer which has attracted special focus from the cops probing model Anna Nicole Smith’s death, reportedly contains emails about drugs that she had sent to doctors.

Bahamian police and Seminole cops met this week, and discussed the contents in the computer on the former ‘Playboy’ playmate’s bedside in her room at the Hard Rock Hotel, Florida.

As per the sources’ account, the computer was Anna Nicole’s personal laptop, which she frequently used to communicate with her doctors in the US via e-mail, reports TMZ.

The wife of her bodyguard, Big Moe, was said to be using the computer before the model died.

Sources say that though the cops are not suspecting Moe’s wife of any misdeed, their main focus is on the information available on the computer.

Moe had recently told the police that the late model’s partner, Howard K. Stern, gave her drugs during the last months of her life, raising suspicion of foul play in her tragic death.

Reports also say that Medical Examiner Dr. Joshua Perper has interviewed people about Anna's drug use.

Rumors are ripe that David has selected an impeccable piece of expensive jewelery as a present for his wife.

Plame Rails Senior Officials Over Leak

WASHINGTON (AP) - Valerie Plame, the CIA operative at the heart of a political scandal, told Congress Friday that senior officials at the White House and State Department "carelessly and recklessly" blew her cover to discredit her diplomat-husband.

Plame, whose 2003 outing triggered a federal investigation, said she always knew her identity could be discovered by foreign governments.

"It was a terrible irony that administration officials were the ones who destroyed my cover," she told the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

"If our government cannot even protect my identity, future foreign agents who might consider working with the Central Intelligence Agency and providing needed intelligence would think twice," Plame said in response to a question.

The hearing was the first time Plame has publicly answered questions about the case, which led to the recent perjury and obstruction of justice conviction of Vice President Dick Cheney's former top aide, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby.

Her appearance was a moment of political theater. Only about half of the committee's members attended and they were well outnumbered by journalists and photographers.

Democrats questioned whether the Bush administration mishandled classified information by leaking her identity to reporters. No one has been charged with leaking her identity.

"It's not our job to determine criminal culpability, but it is out job to determine what went wrong and insist on accountability," Committee Chairman Henry Waxman, D-Calif., said at the outset of the hearing.

The man who led the criminal investigation, Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, was not on the witness list. He told lawmakers Wednesday that federal law prohibited him from offering his thoughts on the case.

Nobody from the White House involved in the leak was scheduled to testify. Neither were officials from the State Department, where the first leak of Plame's identity occurred, or the CIA.

Plame sat alone at a witness table and fielded questions about her CIA career and the disclosure of her name in July 2003 in a story by syndicated columnist Robert Novak. Novak has said that former Deputy State Department Secretary Richard Armitage first revealed Plame's job and President Bush's political adviser, Karl Rove, and CIA spokesman Bill Harlow confirmed it.

"My name and identity were carelessly and recklessly abused by senior officials in the White House and State Department," Plame testified. "I could no longer perform the work for which I had been highly trained."

Plame said she did not select her husband for a CIA fact-finding trip to Niger. Wilson said in a newspaper column that his trip debunked the administration's prewar intelligence that Iraq was seeking to buy uranium from Africa.

"I did not recommend him. I did not suggest him. There was no nepotism involved. I did not have the authority," she said.

That conflicts with senior officials at the CIA and State Department, who testified during Libby's trial that Plame recommended Wilson for the trip.

Plame also repeatedly described herself as a covert operative, a term that has multiple meanings. Plame said she worked undercover and traveled abroad on secret missions for the CIA.

But the word "covert" also has a legal definition requiring recent foreign service and active efforts to keep someone's identity secret. Critics of Fitzgerald's investigation said Plame did not meet that definition for several reasons and said that's why nobody was charged with the leak.

Also, none of the witnesses who testified at Libby's trial said it was clear that Plame's job was classified. However, Fitzgerald said flatly at the courthouse after the verdict that Plame's job was classified.

Rep. Tom Davis, the ranking Republican on the committee, said, "No process can be adopted to protect classified information that no one knows is classified. This looks to me more like a CIA problem than a White House problem."

Plame said she wasn't a lawyer and didn't know what her legal status was but said it shouldn't have mattered to the officials who learned her identity.

"They all knew that I worked with the CIA," Plame said. "They might not have known what my status was but that alone—the fact that I worked for the CIA—should have put up a red flag."

Wilson has written a book, and Plame is working on one, "Fair Game," although it has had a troubled history. In May 2006, the Crown Publishing Group announced it would publish her book, a deal reportedly worth seven figures. But the two sides could not agree on a final contract, and two months later an agreement was announced with Simon & Schuster.

Plame's book is subject to a mandatory review by the CIA. On Thursday, Simon & Schuster spokesman Adam Rothberg would say only that the book was "in progress," and that publication was expected soon.

James Knodell, director of the White House security office, also testified and was criticized by Democrats for not opening an administrative investigation into the leak. Now that Fitzgerald's investigation is complete, Knodell said, he would consider whether an internal probe was appropriate.

J. William Leonard, security director of the National Archives, testified about general procedures for handling sensitive information. Also scheduled to testify Friday were attorney Mark Zaid, who has represented whistleblowers, and attorney Victoria Toensing, who said early on that no law was broken and has criticized the CIA's handling of the case.

The wedding will be followed by receptions in Delhi and Mumbai. In what is a sort of first for a Bollywood wedding, there are reports that the exclusive rights of the wedding have been sold to a foreign media house for an undisclosed sum of money.

The wedding itself will be a close-knit affair, to be attended by family and friends only, and there is speculation it could happen on April 18.

Amitabh Bachchan's mother, Teji Bachchan, is ailing and admitted to Lilavati Hospital. This is also being cited as a reason for Bollywood's first family not wanting to postpone the wedding any longer.

Abhishek is currently shooting for Drona and the bride-to-be, Aishwarya, is shooting for Ashutosh Gowarikar's Akbar Jodha. Both plan to wrap up the shoots by March-end.

ENGLAND made a spirited fightback with bat and ball in their opening World Cup match today after another middle order collapse threatened to put New Zealand in command.

Put into bat in the heavyweight Group C encounter, England's hopes of beginning the tournament strongly seemed to have slipped away when the loss of four wickets for five runs left them reeling on 138 for seven.

A spirited 71-run stand between wicketkeeper Paul Nixon and Liam Plunkett guided England to a competitive 209 for seven and that momentum helped claim three early wickets to put New Zealand under pressure.

But after dismissing Lou Vincent, Ross Taylor and Stephen Fleming inside the first five overs, New Zealand recovered to reach a more promising 72 for three after 15 overs of their reply.

Seamer James Anderson, who passed a late fitness test on his broken right little finger to play, gave England a flying start to New Zealand's reply by having Vincent caught behind with the sixth legitimate delivery.

Momentum

Plunkett continued the momentum by dismissing Taylor two balls later with Andrew Flintoff taking a brilliant diving catch at first slip and Fleming was caught at mid-wicket trying to pull Anderson from outside off stump.

Their reply followed similar lines to England's innings, which began with Ed Joyce falling to the first legitimate delivery of the day from left-arm seamer James Franklin which he edged behind.

Ian Bell, frustrated by scoring only five from 17 balls, was also caught behind trying to advance down the pitch to all-rounder Jacob Oram and captain Michael Vaughan chopped onto his stumps to leave England struggling on 52 for three.

They recovered sufficiently to put themselves on course for a major total, however, with Kevin Pietersen and Paul Collingwood forging an 81-run stand spanning 19.3 overs.

Pietersen was perhaps fortunate to survive an appeal for lbw to the first ball he faced from left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori, but otherwise looked in little trouble during his 92-ball innings.

Collingwood was equally assured and all-rounder Scott Styris' failure to take a smart return catch off him with 15 overs remaining appeared costly with the Durham all-rounder nicely placed on 31.

Reflex

But just two balls later Collingwood attempted to late cut Styris and instead edged behind for McCullum to take an impressive reflex catch standing up to the stumps.

After three more deliveries Pietersen, who had hit four fours and a six in his 60, failed to get the power he had hoped from a front-foot drive and instead chipped fast bowler Shane Bond's third ball straight to long on.

Bond, who had only just been recalled to the attack, quickly claimed a second crucial victim when his slower ball induced Andrew Flintoff into a checked drive which looped to cover for a first-ball duck.

Three overs after that Jamie Dalrymple became Styris' second victim by edging behind as he pushed forward defensively, leaving Nixon and Plunkett with the responsibility of guiding England to a competitive total in the final 10 overs.

England's eighth-wicket partnership delivered with Nixon hitting 42 off 41 balls, including five fours, while Plunkett continued his emergence as a lower-order strokemaker with an unbeaten 29.

But New Zealand's confident reply, with Styris and Craig McMillan forging an unbroken 53-run stand, suggested England's total was under par.

BASSETERRE, St Kitts - South Africa's Herschelle Gibbs created World Cup history when he smashed six sixes in an over to put the Netherlands to the sword in their Group A match today.

On a record-breaking day for the South Africans, Gibbs hammered hapless leg spinner Daan van Bunge back over his head four times and over the ropes on the on side twice to become the first player to achieve the feat at the World Cup.

He also became the third man ever to achieve the feat in first class cricket, joining India?s Ravi Shastri and West Indian Garfield Sobers.

Gibbs heroics completely overshadowed the fastest half-century scored in the World Cup by Mark Boucher and Jacques Kallis' century as South Africa racked up a mammoth 353 for three in a match reduced to 40 overs-a-side after overnight rain delayed the start of the match.

Kallis scored a measured 128 not out, Gibbs made a whirlwind 72, Graeme Smith added 67, and Mark Boucher was 75 not out after reaching his half-century off a record 21 deliveries.

Gibbs launched Van Bunge's first delivery of the 30th over high over long-on, and followed that blow with strikes over long-off, twice, a six over mid-wicket, and another pair of sixes over long-off.

BSP wooing upper castes for votes

NEW DELHI: Apparently aware of the fact that BSP chief Mayawati's bold gambit of giving as many as 86 party tickets to Brahmins and fielding 38 Thakurs for the UP polls could well upset its calculations, BJP has accused the Dalit leader of "use-and-throw" politics.

In attempting to pin down BSP and its main rival, Samajwadi Party, as outfits with an essentially sectional appeal who only looked to woo upper castes to corner votes, BJP did betray a certain sense of anxiety.

The sharp attack on BSP was clearly aimed to ensure that upper caste consolidation — which BJP believes is happening — is not disrupted.

BJP is looking to argue that Mayawati's bonding with Brahmins is aimed at getting upper caste votes and not beyond.

BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu, who has been put in-charge of BJP's poll management in UP, said BSP only had apmaan (insults) for Brahmins earlier.

This has changed to sammaan (regard) only as far this serves BSP's purpose. BJP has good reasons to worry.

In the 2002 assembly polls, BSP very successfully fielded upper caste candidates who, with the backing of Mayawati's Dalit base, got a cutting edge.

Such was the resurgence of caste identities that Brahmins voted for BSP, driven almost totally by caste appeals.

BJP's poll campaign will begin on March 25, with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the party's chief ministerial candidate and former CM Kalyan Singh addressing a public meeting in Kanpur, senior party leader L K Advani addressing a rally with state leader Lalji Tandon in Agra and party chief Rajnath Singh and Kesri Nath Tripathi holding a rally in Jhansi.

This was decided at a meeting on Friday attended by Vajpayee, Advani and Rajnath Singh among others, where it was decided that nationalist and regional issues will be aggressively used for the campaign.

In its campaign, the party will attack the Congress-led UPA for its "minority appeasement" and handling of terrorism while being in power at the Centre, and the ruling SP in UP for its "communalism" in the state, Naidu said.

The BJP will raise vociferously issues such as law and order, corruption, casteism and prices in its electioneering.

Maoists massacre 50 at Indian police base

INDIAN security chiefs were meeting in crisis sessions last night after hundreds of Maoist guerillas killed more than 50 officers and militia men in an attack on a police station in the central state of Chhattisgarh.

In the worst single attack of their insurgency, the Maoists shone spotlights on their victims, who were then shot and killed one by one.

The tactics shocked strategists in New Delhi, and there were suggestions yesterday that the 1.2 million-strong Indian army could for the first time be deployed to fight the Maoists.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh last year described the Maoists -- known as Naxalites after the village in West Bengal where they launched their insurgency in the 1960s, and who now operate in 15 of India's 29 states -- as "the single biggest internal security challenge faced by our country" since independence.

Mineral-rich Chhattisgarh is where they are strongest, but they operate in a "red corridor" that stretches from the border with the Himalayan nation of Nepal, where Maoists will soon form part of the Government, to the state of Andrah Pradesh.

The increasingly well-armed Maoist Naxalites are estimated to have at least 10,000 guerillas -- men and women -- under arms, supported by many more tens of thousands of auxiliaries.

According to reports, the Maoists have established a research and development wing that is tapping into a support base believed to include scientists, among them a married couple who until recently worked at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in Mumbai.

Security agents are reported to have recently unearthed a research and development unit of Naxalites working near Bhopal. And they had earlier discovered similar groups working elsewhere to support the Maoists.

The attack on the remote jungle police post in the Chhattisgarh village of Rani Bod-li, 500km from Raipur, the state capital, has shaken the authorities.

Government officials say between 400 and 600 guerillas surrounded the post at 2am and lit it with high-powered spotlights running on portable generators.

Policemen and local tribal militiamen were picked off one by one, as grenades and petrol bombs were thrown. The attack is reported to have lasted three hours. The Naxalites then entered the compound and used machetes to massacre those still showing signs of life, and to lay landmines that would detonate when help arrived.

The executive director of the New Delhi-based Institute for Conflict Management, Ajai Sahni, was quoted last night as telling a news agency the Maoists had spent much of the past year amassing arms.

"This period has been a period of planning and consolidation and you will now see the consequences," he said, adding that mass support for the insurgents continued to grow.

He forecast an escalation of violence in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, police in West Bengal yesterday shot more than 15 peasants protesting for land rights in an area earmarked to become a special economic zone.

The peasants, mainly farmers, had for months been resisting attempts to expropriate their land for the SEZ.

Police sent by West Bengal's communist Government moved in earlier this week to remove the protesters, but fired indiscriminately into the crowd of men, women and children.

The shootings have embarrassed the ruling United Progress Alliance led by Sonia Gandhi's Congress party, because the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is one of the partners in the coalition.

Police Killing Sparks Strike in Indian State of West Bengal

Schools, colleges and offices shut across West Bengal state, and transport stayed off the roads as an opposition alliance enforced a daylong shutdown on Friday.

The strike was called two days after 14 villagers were killed and scores injured when police fired on farmers in Nandigram district. Police were trying to break up angry mobs that were pelting them with stones and homemade bombs.

Villagers and political activists there have been leading violent protests against plans to acquire farmland to establish a chemical hub and industrial park. They have set up roadblocks and destroyed bridges to prevent officials and policemen from entering the area.

The protests have continued since January despite a state government pledge to shift the proposed special economic zone if villagers do not want it.

Junior federal Home Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal says that the state government is taking steps to tackle the unrest. He said the West Bengal government is hopeful that peace will be restored to the region soon.

The issue of land acquisition became controversial after the West Bengal government decided to turn over thousands of acres of farmland to private industries. The communist government wants to woo private investment to improve the economy of the state, which businesses have shunned for decades due to militant trade unions.

But farmers say they will be displaced and left without a livelihood if their land is taken away.

The violent protests by farmers in West Bengal have turned the spotlight on the federal government's plans to establish hundreds of special economic zones throughout the country. Critics are questioning the merits of handing over agricultural land to businesses in a country where agriculture sustains two thirds of the one billion people.

A worried federal government has put the policy on hold for the time being.

Meanwhile, angry opposition lawmakers disrupted Parliament for a second straight day on Friday demanding that the federal government send an all-party delegation to West Bengal to investigate the recent killings of villagers.

66-year old man leaps White House fence

Secret Service on Friday arrested a 66-year-old man who scaled a White House fence with a package that later was destroyed with a water cannon.

The incident prompted a security lockdown on the White House compound for more than three hours. Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren said a man identified as Catalino Lucas Diaz, possibly of Florida, was in custody pending charges.

The area along Pennsylvania Avenue and Lafayette Park, across the street from the White House, was locked down between 11:10 a.m. EDT when the man jumped the fence along the northeast side of the White House and 2:30 p.m. EDT.

Members of the media and White House staffers, who also have offices in that area, were not allowed to leave the building. The regular White House briefing was delayed for three hours until the area could be secured.

"When he and his bundle made it over the fence, there were three separate packages — a book, a tape recorder and some other items," said White House press secretary Tony Snow. "One of the reasons it took so long is that they spent a lot of time taking great care and examining each and every one of those items. And that's why we were on lockdown."

Zahren said the water cannon, a device that shoots a powerful stream of water, was used to destroy the package, but it did not contain any dangerous items.

Pet food maker announces major recall

WASHINGTON - A major manufacturer of dog and cat food sold under Wal-Mart, Safeway, Kroger and other store brands recalled 60 million containers of wet pet food Friday after reports of kidney failure and deaths.

An unknown number of cats and dogs suffered kidney failure and about 10 died after eating the affected pet food, Menu Foods said in announcing the North American recall. Product testing has not revealed a link explaining the reported cases of illness and death, the company said.

"At this juncture, we're not 100 percent sure what's happened," said Paul Henderson, the company's president and chief executive officer.

The recall covers the company's "cuts and gravy" style food, which consists of chunks of meat in gravy, sold in cans and small foil pouches between Dec. 3 and March 6. The pet food was sold by stores operated by the Kroger Company, Safeway Inc., Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and PetSmart Inc., among others, Henderson said.

Menu Foods did not immediately provide a full list of brand names and lot numbers covered by the recall, saying they would be posted on its Web site — http://www.menufoods.com/recall — early Saturday. Consumers with questions can call (800) 551-7392.

The company said it manufacturers for 17 of the top 20 North American retailers. It is also a contract manufacturer for the top branded pet food companies. Its three U.S. and one Canadian factory produce more than 1 billion containers of wet pet food a year. The recall covers pet food made at company plants in Emporia, Kan., and Pennsauken, N.J., Henderson said.

Henderson said the company received an undisclosed number of owner complaints of vomiting and kidney failure in dogs and cats after they had been fed its products. It has tested its products but not found a cause for the sickness.

"To date, the tests have not indicated any problems with the product," Henderson said.

The company alerted the
Food and Drug Administration, which already has inspectors in one of the two plants, Henderson said. The FDA was working to nail down brand names covered by the recall, agency spokesman Mike Herndon said.

Ashlee Simpson used to feel like an “ugly duckling” next to big sister Jessica.

Ashlee was constantly compared to her beautiful and successful sibling when she embarked on her own singing career and the comparisons allegedly affected Ashlee’s self-esteem.

It has now been claimed that Ashlee decided to have her nose straightened so she could be as attractive as Jessica.

A source told Bliss magazine: “Ashlee has always been cute but for a long time she felt like the ugly duckling of the family compared to Jessica. Every time she looked in the mirror, she saw a too-prominent nose, and she decided to do something about it.

“She was thrilled with the results. She basically had the bump on her nose shaved down.”

Since revealing her new nose and image Ashlee’s career has soared, while Jessica is still struggling following the breakdown of her marriage to Nick Lachey. The turnaround has reportedly put a strain on their relationship.

The source added: “Ashlee could see that her career was taking off, while many would say that Jessica’s was on the way down.

“Sadly, the two sisters have had some disagreements and it’s all to do with Ashlee’s success. Being on stage in Chicago in London was a huge move for Ashlee and Jessica was very jealous - she even confided to friends that she thought Ashee’s new look was trampy.”

Larry Birkhead’s lawyer, Debra Opri has quit! She issued a statement saying “Larry Birkhead and I have terminated our attorney-client relationship effective immediately.”

Wow, reportedly the two have butt heads often over the last few weeks and speculation has run from the amount of money Opri is being paid to how certain information concerning the case is leaking to the media.

Talk about short notice to get a new lawyer.

In what looks like an attempt by the United States Post Office to increase the ever shrinking amount of normal mail (snail mail to you and me) being sent because of the birth of email and the fax machine, the USPS is dressing up mailboxes as the Star Wars Character R2D2. Don’t they know that all these nerds and geeks have probably never put anything into a mailbox since 1996? They should have a painted it with the nerd goddess Princess Leah in her gold bikini.

Update: I’m an idiot. It is the 30th anniversary of Star Wars and USPS is dressing the mailboxes up to mark this event.

Still, Leah in the gold bikini is still way better

Brad spent the afternoon at the office of Scott Free Pictures run by Ridley Scott who directed Brad in his breakout role in ‘Thelma and Louise’ and Tony Scott who directed Brad in ‘Spy Game’. Brad then had a cigarette with a friend before climbing aboard his Ducati and taking off.

News is spreading like wild fire that troubled pop princess Britney has found love in rehab. Reportedly falling head over heels for rocker Jason Filyaw, after being in constant contact with him during her stint at Promises rehab clinic in Malibu, California. The star is reportedly so smitten with the guitarist of the band Riva, that she even plans to move in with him when she leaves rehab.

Spears is said to have fallen for Jason Filyaw after a tender re-union after not having seen eachother for 3 years. After seeing he was also bald, Britney affectionaltly rubbed her head up against his and joked: “We could be twins!”. Yesterday Jason insisted he has been told not to talk about the reports, adding: “I’m not going to sell her out.” But he admitted: “There is always at least some truth in all these crazy stories.” He added: “I’m just trying to keep things under wrap right now to protect so many people. Britney’s loved-ones are worried about the effect the relationship will have on her at the most difficult time of her life. An insider said: “Britney is very unhappy in rehab. She wants to be with Jason - and it’s all her family and friends can do to talk her into staying. “Her family is also worried that a fling with Jason could ruin their plans for Kevin, Britney and the kids to get back together when she finishes rehab.”

Geneva Auto Show Oddballs: Quirky Cars You Won't See on U.S. Roads

Auto shows can be like high school all over again, but on a corporate level: This year at the Geneva show there was the popular crowd — big international carmakers and noted specialty market players — introducing their latest vehicles on the first media preview day with the fanfare and production value of a rock concert; while the second day was left over for the beanie-wearing boutique manufacturers lucky to have a podium and press conference time slot at all, but pushing hard to get in with the cool kids.

It was a big year for world debuts relevant to North America, but many fascinating new models were unveiled in Geneva that will likely never make it to the U.S., where stricter federal safety and emissions laws become a barrier to small firms who can’t afford the hundreds of thousands — and sometimes millions — of dollars required for developing and testing expensive emissions and safety equipment for their vehicles.

Here’s a sampling of oddballs unveiled at this year’s Geneva Auto Show that are intriguing enough to merit a closer look, even if they never make it to North America:
Artega

Penned by designer extraordinaire Henrik Fisker — famous among automotive industry watchers for creating the stunning and timeless look of the Aston Martin DB9 and V8 Vantage and BMW Z8 — the Artega is a new car from a new German company, that aims to build high-performance sports cars for everyday use. The two-seat 2008 Artega uses a 3.6-liter Volkswagen-sourced V6 and that company’s well-regarded DSG twin-clutch gearbox to get its 300 hp to the ground via the rear wheels. The body is immaculately proportioned, with a footprint about the size of the petite Lotus Elise, but with a sultry silhouette that resembles a Porsche Cayman that magically shrunk in all the right places. This is almost a move downmarket for Fisker, who works on his own rebodied BMW 6 Series and Mercedes-Benz SLs, which he calls the Latigo CS and Tramonto, respectively.

Droid R2-D2 to collect mail

WASHINGTON - Thirty years ago, in theaters near and far, far away, a movie opened the imaginations of millions, combining the magics of mythology and special effects to launch the "Star Wars" phenomenon.

A star of those films — the brave little robot R2-D2 — is about to take a turn collecting mail as the Postal Service and Lucasfilm Ltd. commemorate that movie launch.

The post office is wrapping mail collection boxes in some 200 cities nationwide in a special covering to look like R2-D2.

It's part of a promotion for a new stamp to be announced March 28, Anita T. Bizzotto, the post office's chief marketing officer, said.

"It's a little teaser for the upcoming announcement and we decided to have a little fun with it," she said.

About 400 mailboxes will be covered to look like the stout droid. "When you look at a mailbox, the resemblance to R2-D2 is too good to pass up," Bizzotto said.

While postal officials would like people to look for these mailboxes and maybe even drop in a letter, Bizzotto urged people not to tamper with them, noting that's a crime.

Immense ice deposits found at south pole of Mars

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A spacecraft orbiting Mars has scanned huge deposits of water ice at its south pole so plentiful they would blanket the planet in 36 feet of water if they were liquid, scientists said on Thursday.

The scientists used a joint
NASA-Italian Space Agency radar instrument on the European Space Agency Mars Express spacecraft to gauge the thickness and volume of ice deposits at the Martian south pole covering an area larger than Texas.

The deposits, up to 2.3 miles thick, are under a polar cap of white frozen carbon dioxide and water, and appear to be composed of at least 90 percent frozen water, with dust mixed in, according to findings published in the journal Science.

Scientists have known that water exists in frozen form at the Martian poles, but this research produced the most accurate measurements of just how much there is.

They are eager to learn about the history of water on Mars because water is fundamental to the question of whether the planet has ever harbored microbial or some other life. Liquid water is a necessity for life as we know it.

Characteristics like channels on the Martian surface strongly suggest the planet once was very wet, a contrast to its present arid, dusty condition.

Jeffrey Plaut of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, who led the study, said the same techniques are being used to examine similar ice deposits at the Martian north pole.

Radar observations made in late 2005 and early 2006 provided the data on the south pole, and similar observations were taken of the north pole in the past several months, Plaut said.

Plaut, part of an international team of two dozen scientists, said a preliminary look at this data indicated the ice deposits in at the north pole are comparable to those at the south pole.

SEARCH FOR LIFE

"Life as we know it requires water and, in fact, at least transient liquid water for cells to survive and reproduce. So if we are expecting to find existing life on Mars we need to go to a location where water is available," Plaut said.

"So the polar regions are naturally a target because we certainly know that there's plenty of H2O there."

Some of the new information even hints at the possible existence of a thin layer of liquid water at the base of the deposits.

But while images taken by NASA's Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft made public in December suggested the presence of a small amount of liquid water on the surface, researchers are baffled about the fate of most of the water. The polar deposits contain most of the known water on Mars.

Plaut said the amount of water in the Martian past may have been the equivalent of a global layer hundreds of meters deep, while the polar deposits represent a layer of perhaps tens of meters.

"We have this continuing question facing us in studies of Mars, which is: where did all the water go?" Plaut said.

"Even if you took the water in these two (polar) ice caps and added it all up, it's still not nearly enough to do all of the work that we've seen that the water has done across the surface of Mars in its history."

Plaut said it appears perhaps 10 percent of the water that once existed on Mars is now trapped in these polar deposits. Other water may exist below the planet's surface or perhaps some was lost into space through the atmosphere, Plaut said.
