12 March 2007 - The true life story of UK based Indian housewife Kiranjit Alhuwalia comes to life onscreen with Aishwarya Rai starrer Provoked.
The actress who is shortly getting married, is sure to make critic's sit up and take notice of her portrayal of Kiranjit Alhuwalia in the controversial British production Provoked
Kiran who had been a victim of domestic violence set her husband to fire, little realizing that he would succumb to his injuries.
A landmark case in British legal history, Kiranjit was set free after three and half years in prison. As for Aishwarya, Kiran's story had to be told.
"There are so many Kirans out there not just restricted to India," Aishwarya told NDTV.
The film stars Nandita Das as Radha Patel, the activist from South Hall Black's sister, who fought kiranjit's case.
The movie also star's Naveen Andrews of 'Lost' fame and Miranda Richardson.
Devoid of songs a music video for the film has been composed by A R Rehman and sung by singer Karen David.
According to Film maker Jagmohan Mundra, Aishwarya has given one of her best performances in the film. "I would term it as one of her most sincere performance where she has gone beyond all her other roles."
The film has created a buzz ever since the Cannes screening," he says.
"I am hoping what people say for Aishwarya not suited for dramatic roles will no longer be heard after this film, she was wonderful in it," says Mundhra.
The film has won critical acclaim at Cannes and at International film festival in Dubai last year.
Dubbed in four languages, Provoked is due for a world wide release in the first week of April 2007.
